Kielo Research was founded to optimize the use of patient-centered science across the life sciences industry. We focus on patient preferences and other patient-centric research to support drug development from pre-clinical to commercialization phases.
Meet The Team

Chief Scientist
Tommi Tervonen, PhD
Tommi is a key opinion leader in patient preferences and benefit-risk assessment. His expertise influences decision-maker opinion, and he has been consulted by key agencies such as the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and (NICE). He co-chaired the ISPOR Task Force on Good Practice in Quantitative Benefit-Risk Assessment.

Dr Tervonen has served as principal investigator in dozens of influential patient preference studies, including one of the IMI PREFER industry case studies.​

Vice-President, Patient-Centred Outcomes
Katja Rudell, PhD
Katja is the Vice-President, Patient-Centred Outcomes at Kielo Research, and elected to the Board of Directors at ISPOR 2024-27. She holds a PhD from Barts and Queen Mary's Medical School.
Dr Rudell has over 20 years of experience in use of clinical outcomes assessments for drug development. She has conducted patient research in health psychology, randomised clinical trials and conceptualised and validated at least 20 new instruments for assessing patient-centred outcomes, and designed several studies to measure patient benefit.

Associate Director
Cecilia Jimenez-Moreno, PhD
Cecilia has more than 12 years of experience working in patient-centric research across various settings and methodologies, including clinical trials, quantitative patient preference surveys, and qualitative studies.
Dr Jimenez-Moreno was the case study lead for the IMI-PREFER project's patient preference study in neuromuscular disorders. She is a member of the PREFER Expert Network and is also a member of the PFMD Patient Experience Data – Patient Preference Studies (PED-PPS) workstream.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

Senior Research Associate
Karen Winkler, MSc
Karen has more than 20 years of experience in research. She has worked in healthcare (market) research for 12 years and preference research for more than seven years, focusing mainly on discrete choice experiments.
She specialises in managing quantitative research projects to understand preferences from various perspectives, including patients, health care professionals, carers, and the community.

Senior Research Associate
Stephane Deparis, PhD
Stephane's scientific expertise includes multi-criteria decision analysis (MCDA), preference modelling and preference elicitation methods as well as data analysis.
His research on preference methods has been published in leading MCDA journals. He holds a doctoral degree in computer science (with a specialization in MCDA) from Ecole Central Paris.

Senior Research Associate
Alexandra Jager, DPhil
Alexandra has extensive experience in conducting mixed-methods health services research, including developing and distributing surveys and completing and analysing interviews and focus groups.
She has previously worked with the UK National Health Service (NHS) and other public sector organisations, and holds a DPhil (PhD) in Primary Health Care from Oxford University.​​

Research Associate
Dorsa Khazaei, MSc
Dorsa specialises in patient-centred research and has expertise in clinical outcome assessments, qualitative research methods, clinical trial exit interviews, and the development and psychometric validation of instruments across diverse therapeutic areas.
Her professional experience spans both academic and industry settings, including roles at the NHS and the Red Cross. Ms. Khazaei holds an MSc with distinction in Clinical and Public Health Nutrition from University College London. ​

Research Associate
Gemma Thomson, MSc
Gemma specialises in qualitative research methods, and has also worked on instrument development studies (including patient-reported, clinician-reported, and observer-reported outcome measures), psychometric validation studies, patient preference studies, utility studies, targeted and systematic review studies, market research, and scientific dissemination.
Ms. Thomson has worked within multiple physical and mental therapeutic areas, and completed a MSc in Health Psychology at the University of Bath. ​
